Gus Lozano, Vice President

In 2014, Gus Lozano transitioned to Hight Logistics following a 15-year tenure as a dispatch supervisor at CMI Multimodal. Having known Hight founder Rudy Diaz since childhood, an opportunity with Hight was the first to successfully lure him away from CMI, knowing he’d be working with someone that he could trust.
“If you’re going to walk away from a stable job, you have to be pretty confident, especially if you’re going to partner with someone,” Gus said. “The whole trust thing comes into play.”
In his role as vice president, Gus dedicates himself to overseeing day-to-day operations, leveraging his wealth of industry expertise to steer activities in the right direction. He views stability as one of his key contributions to Hight, grounding the company in consistent performance and progress.
“I’ve seen a lot of people come and jump into this and they flame out in a year or two,” Gus said. “You have to be good under pressure for this type of work. It’s pretty dynamic.”
Gus’s career journey began straight out of high school when he landed a role as a gate clerk supervisor at Union Pacific Railroad in 1998. This initial foray into logistics paved the way for his subsequent tenure at CMI before ultimately joining the Hight team.
A proud graduate of Artesia High School in Lakewood, California, Gus cherishes his time outside of work, relishing moments spent with his family. As the father of sons aged 2, 4 and 17, he humorously reflects, “I’m sending one off to college and changing diapers at the same time – and everything in between.”
Gus also enjoys basketball and working out as part of his active lifestyle.

Rudy Diaz, Founder & CEO

Rudy Diaz has dedicated his career to drayage, while also cultivating a personal passion for environmental sustainability.
A graduate of Virginia’s Hampden-Sydney College, Rudy founded Hight Logistics in 2011. Drawing on his extensive background in international supply chain sales, port driver fleet management and domestic rail account oversight at companies like Future Forwarding Company, and California Multimodal, Rudy set out to establish a premier drayage provider.
“Starting around 2010, I began doing a lot of reading on how we’re diminishing and depleting the world through our acquisition of resources,” Rudy said. “I knew we needed to exercise leadership.”
As one of the early adopters of large-scale zero-emission trucks, Hight has already made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint, offsetting 117.3 tons of CO2 in the first year alone.
“Our commitment is to the absolute highest standards in drayage services, and the absolute strongest commitment to a clean and sustainable planet,” Rudy said. “I am proud of our team for their dedication to these principles.”
Apart from his work-related pursuits, Rudy enjoys rising early for road cycling and trail running, and capping off the day with quiet reading sessions to stay informed about world events or seek inspiration from books.

Frank Castillo, Hight Electric Terminal Manager

Frank Castillo arrived at Hight in 2022 as the terminal manager for Hight Electric, bringing with him two decades of experience in the logistics field. Upon joining Hight, he quickly identified the company’s strong vision and proactive culture.

“To work with this new infrastructure, and to take the lead in remodeling the industry with zero-emission vehicles, is exciting,” Frank said. “We can proudly say we’ve helped to set the foundation for this to take place. It’s something most companies would doubt could be done.”

Frank’s background has taught him how to effectively adapt to new procedures and work past obstacles in a fast-paced environment. The result has been consistent, highly efficient terminal operations for Hight Electric’s fleet of 20 zero-emission EVs. In his off time, Frank enjoys eating out with his family, exploring new beaches and hikes, and rooting for the Los Angeles Angels.

Alison Chavarria, Human Resources Manager

Alison joined Hight in July 2023, bringing with her a background in renewable energy and sustainability cultivated during her time at Stem, Inc., where she held an HR role. She holds a degree in sociology from the University of Buffalo, which she believes strongly ties into her passion for supporting people at organizations like Hight.
With a SHRM-CP credential under her belt, Alison excels at building relationships with employees, customers, vendors and industry specialists to drive business success. She finds fulfillment in being part of a forward-thinking leadership team at Hight that is addressing real needs in sustainability for the community and beyond.
Alison’s primary focus at Hight is nurturing a healthy company culture characterized by openness, feedback and constructive dialogue. She prioritizes supporting the well-being of Hight’s employees, recognizing that they are integral to the company’s ongoing growth and success. Additionally, Alison stays up to speed on California labor laws, aligning with her commitment to employee learning and development, and her personal value of effective communication.
Aside from her professional endeavors, Alison finds motivation in morning interval training sessions to kickstart her day with energy and focus. She also enjoys exploring plant-based cooking as a way to promote health and sustainability in her personal life.

Sophie Lin, Manager of Accounting

Sophie Lin joined Hight Logistics in January 2022, having worked professionally as an accountant since receiving her accounting degree in Taiwan.
Since joining the company, Sophie has taken a crucial leadership role in creating first-rate accounting systems and complete accounting reports.
On a day-to-day basis, she particularly enjoys working for a company where financial and accounting records are well-organized and well-kept as a matter of standard operating procedure.
Outside of work, Sophie is an avid exerciser and runner, and she makes it a point to start her mornings with a refreshing exercise routine. This commitment to physical fitness helps her remain sharp throughout the day, ensuring she brings her best to every task at hand.

Nelson Gonzalez, Infrastructure Manager

Nelson Gonzalez came aboard Hight in 2019, initially serving as the general manager before transitioning to his current role as infrastructure manager. President Rudy Diaz and Vice President Gus Lozano were already familiar with Nelson from their time together at California Multimodal, where he showcased his expertise in areas such as restructuring and compliance. Recognizing Nelson’s valuable skills, they brought him on board to ensure that Hight excelled in these critical areas.
Since joining, Nelson has been instrumental in optimizing Hight’s technological assets, particularly its TMS, and consistently introduces innovative ideas to enhance efficiency and operational standards.
“They’re open-minded and they see for the future,” Nelson said. “We’ve been in the industry pretty much all our adult lives, and they’re progressive thinkers. I like that. It keeps me engaged. And they’re open to new ideas, which is why we’re spearheading EV trucks and electrification. They’re at the forefront right now.”
Nelson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California Santa Barbara. Outside of work, he finds joy in long-distance bicycling and running, as well as cooking and serving as a referee for youth soccer matches.
